Your Wedding as a Watercolour Illustration

I am frequently asked at wedding fairs if I paint wedding couples. The answer is a joyful yes. Although I always displayed several samples, most of them were digitally drawn. After receiving numerous enquiries following recent fairs, I realised it was high time to track my process and create an official hand painted watercolour example.

A Personal Gift and the Perfect Sample

When close friends of mine got married last summer, it provided the perfect inspiration. This January, I decided to use their wedding as the basis for my new official sample. This allowed me to create a heartfelt wedding gift while perfectly measuring the time needed for such a detailed commission.

I began the illustration based on their beautiful wedding photos. The first step was the initial sketch. I searched for my favourite spot in their pictures, selected the most natural pose, and started painting. One of the greatest joys of painting over photography is the creative freedom it allows. I can easily adjust the surroundings to perfect the composition. For this piece, I refined the railings, moved branches to frame the couple, and closed a gate to create a more intimate scene.

The Time Behind the Art

Quality takes time. This particular illustration is highly detailed with a full background in A3 format. To achieve this level of intricacy and capture every detail of the setting, I spent approximately seven hours at my desk.

Because every wedding and every story is unique, I do not offer fixed price packages for this type of work. Instead, you can choose your preferred style and level of detail. Based on your specific wishes, I will provide a personal time estimate and a bespoke quote for your illustration.

How the Commission Process Works

If you would like your own unique memento, the process is simple and personal.

  1. Reference Photos: You send me images where I can clearly see your outfits, the surrounding scenery, the lighting, and your preferred pose.
  2. Sketching and Painting: I create a detailed sketch before moving on to the final watercolour painting.
  3. The Final Artwork: You receive the finished original watercolour painting in your chosen format.

I offer these bespoke illustrations from my studio or, if you prefer a live experience, I can also paint live at your wedding to capture the magic as it happens.

Beyond the Wedding Day: Love Story Illustrations

While this sample focuses on the wedding day itself, I also offer a different way to celebrate your journey together. If you want to see your entire history as a couple in one frame, my Love Story illustrations are for you. These bespoke pieces allow us to track and visualise your unique story from the very beginning.
